tiny dancer

My teeny tiny ballerina.  She has great fun... peeling her bananas (feet) and then eating them.  The teacher always asks what color butterfly they'd like to be and most girls say pink or purple, today, Ophelia was a green butterfly and asked for a green ribbon to dance with.  It changes every week.

Happy Mom's Day

100_0785_2

I found out I was pregnant, officially, May 9/05, the day after Mother's Day.  I had a strong feeling I was on the day but decided to wait one more sleep before buying the test.  I called my mom and sister immediately, still holding onto the positive stick.  I've never been one to wait.

Today, I am thinking of the day that I officially became a mom,  January 17, 2006 at about 7:20pm, and the first few weeks afterwards, looking into those blue blue eyes with disbelief that she was actually here.  I found out I was having a girl after  an amnio early on in my pregnancy so she was already named Ophelia before she was born.

I just love this photo and wanted to share it with you.  I hope other moms out there are enjoying their special day today, remembering those precious first moments like I am.

Prom Night

My husband is at Prom tonight.  Seeing the limos pull up a couple of doors down and all the girls gussied up and the guys tuxed out reminded me of my own graduation.  Not so memorable anymore.  I vaguely remember breaking up with my boyfriend, a squabble between girlfriends and a bottle of tequila.  That pretty much sums it up.

Apparently, girls have been missing English class for hair consultations, manicures, pedicures, dress alterations for the last couple of weeks.  Reminds me too much of my wedding.  I highly recommend eloping.

I ALMOST thought about digging out my old year book for a grad photo to post but thought better of it.  Here is a much cuter shots from our morning of bird watching.  Can you believe I'm still wearing  Chuck Taylor's and skinny jeans?  And the size of those feet, yikes!  That's almost as embarrassing as a high school photo would have been.

For You

P5070006

It's quiet in the craft room today.  I've got some ideas and the wheels are turning.  I ordered this fabric to make Ophelia a little jumper dress and am still trying sort out the details.

I want to give away my last pincushion to someone who visits me here so please leave a comment so I can include you in a draw that will take place on Sunday night.  I will post the winning name on Monday, May12th.

I committed to selling at a baby sale this Saturday so we'll see how that goes.  I might have another little give away next week as well.

Got Craft?

P5040016

Going in with low, low expectations and my deflated self - thinking I am so done with craft fairs - the day ended rather unexpectedly.  With some not bad sales but still a table full of totes and left over pincushions and tissue huggers, along came a retailer, whom I adore - Barefoot Conetessa, and scooped almost the whole lot!  I must say I was rather shocked and thrilled that she took everything right then.  I guess my  blood, sweat and tears paid off * wink*

Ella was there to keep me company and her lovely creations were there too.

Her display was the most beautiful and here we were visited by the cutesy crafter, Cutesypoo!

I also finally got to meet Demo Derby, my friend Roberta's boyfriend's sister, whom I have heard so much about.  Lovin' the heart pincushions!

One other fellow crafter I met at the show was Hine, she makes the coolest camera cases:

Oh yes, and Smeeta was there too!  I love these cloud pins:

thoughts

My daughter is addicted to playing computer games.  Try and explain to a two year old about time and limitations, oh boy, now there is a fight, an ongoing one at that until teenage-hood I am sure.

I'm feeling a little deflated at the moment and I may be up for a change, a fresh start.  More later.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

muy bueno

P4300009

Key lime Cheesecake - Oh my, it was perfectly set with these three layers: lime-y tart custard; citrus-y cream cheese filling; sweet sour cream topping.

Tortilla Soup -  My sister made this for me the very first time I tried it and I have been making it ever since.  This soup can be made vegetarian or with chicken and/or chorizo thrown into the mix.  I love it both ways.

You may think we celebrated Cinco de Mayo early but we often eat Mexican style around here and the cheesecake I made especially for my dad to celebrate his 59th birthday.  He is originally from Florida and a big fan of key lime pie.

Thank-you for your input about my last post regarding Ophelia's daycare.  The incident won't go undiscussed but we will continue with it for now.  I've met an awesome woman who nannies a little girl in Ophelia's dance class whom I'd love to have look after O as well but her schedule is jam-packed at the moment.  I'm going to bring it up next time I see her just so she knows I am interested in hiring her if she should have a spot open up.  Bub is on the wait list for preschool/daycare starting in September so we'll just have to stick this arrangement out for now.

bare legs and all

P4260004

I'm not a sock person. I'd love to be in my bare feet all the time if I could but they get so darn cold. We stripped off our socks and walked in the grass before settling down for a snack the other day when the sun was at its warmest. Ophelia was pleasantly surprised by the cool feeling and at first wasn't sure if she liked it, then skipped along, enjoying the texture perhaps.

I've just put little bub down for her nap after a tearful lunch - she bit her finger accidently while eating her sandwich. It's always a bit of an emotional and rushed lunch on tuesdays because it is her nap time when I pick her up from daycare and she is usually starving and tired at the same time.

I'm a bit peeved at the moment because when I picked her up late this morning, she was soaking wet. She hadn't been changed since I dropped her off at 8 am, nearly 4 hrs! She was playing in the garden happily and the caregiver had run out for moment and had left a bit of ninny in charge. She said Ophelia had been sitting on the ground... Ha! Her pants were soaked all the way down the back of the legs and her diaper weighed about 5 lbs. Now given, maybe she got lost in the bunch and her bottom overlooked, but I'm a wee bit pissed none-the-less. I'm not sure what I should do really. I've never felt 100% comfortable with this situation but have gone along as a first step to getting a much needed break from one another but maybe a nanny would be a better idea. Any thoughts?
